In Little Rock, truck A/C isn’t a luxury — for about four months a year it’s safety equipment.

From June into September, afternoons in the mid-90s and humidity that pushes the heat index past 100°F turn a cab with dead A/C into an oven. That’s true whether you’re crawling through I-30 traffic downtown or trying to sleep at the Galloway truck stops. Heat stress wears a driver down, and a tired driver is a less safe one.

Truck A/C systems take a beating here: long idle hours, condensers packed with bugs and cottonwood, and constant vibration that loosens fittings and cracks hoses. We come to your truck to find out why it isn’t cooling and fix it on site whenever possible.

Jobs that belong in a shop

  • Evaporator core replacement, which on many trucks means taking the dash apart — a shop job
  • Heater core replacement, for the same reason
  • Some APU and battery-powered no-idle A/C systems need specialized service
  • Systems contaminated by a failed compressor that need a full flush may be better handled indoors

Fix it on site or tow it?

An A/C problem almost never means a tow, because the truck still drives. The real question is whether the fix happens where it’s parked or gets scheduled at a shop. Hose and fitting leaks, compressor clutches, blower motors, switches, and recharges are standard mobile jobs.

One caution: a seized compressor can shred or throw the belt, and on some engines that belt drives other components too. If you hear grinding from the compressor or the belt came off, have it checked before driving far.

What to tell dispatch

  2. Whether it’s the cab, the sleeper, or both
  3. Any noise from the compressor or belt area
  4. Whether the truck has an APU or battery-powered sleeper A/C
  5. Where the truck is parked and how long it’ll be there

Truck A/C Repair FAQ

Why is my truck A/C blowing warm?

Most often it’s low refrigerant from a leak, a compressor clutch that isn’t engaging, a failed pressure switch, or a clogged condenser. Testing shows which one.

Can you just recharge it?

A recharge without fixing the leak is a short-term patch — the refrigerant leaks back out. The right repair finds and fixes the leak, then recharges.

Why does it cool on the highway but not at idle?

At idle there’s less airflow across the condenser. A condenser plugged with debris, a weak fan clutch, or a marginal charge usually shows up at idle first.

Do you work on sleeper A/C and APUs?

Tell dispatch the make of your APU or sleeper system so the technician knows what to expect.

Do you fix heaters too?

Heater problems like blend doors, blower motors, controls, and coolant flow can often be handled on site. Heater core replacement is usually a shop job.

What refrigerant does my truck use?

Many trucks use R-134a, and some newer ones use R-1234yf. The correct type is on a label under the hood.
