Arkansas’s newest interstate

On November 7, 2024, about 123 miles of the US-67 freeway from North Little Rock to Walnut Ridge were officially redesignated Interstate 57. The long-term plan is to connect it to the existing I-57 in Missouri, giving trucks a straight interstate route from Little Rock to St. Louis and Chicago.

I-57 starts at I-40 Exit 155 in North Little Rock and runs co-signed with US-67 and US-167. Exits restart at 1 at McCain Boulevard in Sherwood. It passes the east end of I-440 (Exit 6), Jacksonville and Little Rock Air Force Base (Exits 8–11), Cabot (Exits 16–21), Beebe (Exits 28–31), and Searcy (Exits 42–46) before reaching Bald Knob (Exit 55). The Arkansas Highway Police operate a weigh station on this stretch near Jacksonville.

Where trucks break down on I-57

  • Sherwood and Jacksonville. Heavy commuter traffic at rush hour, closely spaced exits, and tight shoulders.
  • The scales near Jacksonville. Brake adjustment, air leaks, lights, and tires are the usual out-of-service findings.
  • Cabot to Searcy. Faster, more open interstate where blowouts and overheating show up on summer afternoons.
