A planned city with a working north end

Maumelle was laid out as a planned community along the Arkansas River, but it isn’t just houses. The north end of town has an industrial park with manufacturers and distribution buildings, and trucks move in and out of it all day. Two I-40 exits serve the city: Exit 142 at Morgan (AR 365), where there’s a truck stop, and Exit 148 at Crystal Hill Road, which connects to Maumelle Boulevard (AR 100).

Just south, I-430 crosses the Arkansas River on its way to west Little Rock and I-30, which puts Maumelle a few minutes from almost everywhere in the metro — and puts a lot of trucks on I-40 right past it.

What Maumelle-area trucks run into

  • Yard and shift work. Yard tractors and local trucks at plants and warehouses that need fast repairs between shifts.
  • Interstate breakdowns. I-40 between Conway and North Little Rock carries heavy traffic with limited shoulder room at the interchanges.
  • Heat. Summer idling at docks is tough on cooling systems and A/C.
