The Texas connection

Interstate 30 runs from Fort Worth through Dallas and Texarkana to its end at I-40 in North Little Rock. In Arkansas it passes Hope, Arkadelphia, and Malvern, then picks up US-70 and US-67 and heads into Saline County. From Benton to Little Rock it widens to six lanes and carries some of the heaviest traffic in the state.

Inside Little Rock, I-30 meets I-430 at Exit 129, then the big I-440/I-530 interchange at Exit 138, then I-630 at Exit 139B before crossing the Arkansas River into North Little Rock. The river crossing and downtown interchanges were rebuilt by the 30 Crossing project, finished in late 2024, with a new 10-lane bridge.

Where trucks break down on I-30

  • Benton to Little Rock. Six lanes of heavy traffic and not much shoulder margin. If you can reach Exit 121 or 128, do.
  • The south interchange (Exit 138). Ramps to I-440 and I-530, plenty of weaving, and little room to stop safely.
  • Downtown and the river bridge. Tight ramps and no real shoulder on some stretches. Call immediately and tell dispatch if you’re blocking a lane.
  • Malvern to Benton. Faster rural interstate where blowouts and overheating show up on hot afternoons.

While you wait

Hazards on, triangles out, and get away from traffic. On a six-lane interstate, cars won’t always move over. Our breakdown checklist walks through the steps.
