The freight bypass
I-440 starts at the I-30/I-530 interchange in south Little Rock and runs east past Springer Boulevard and Clinton National Airport. Much of that first stretch is a long bridge over the Fourche Creek floodplain. It then passes the exits for the Port of Little Rock and its industrial park, crosses the Arkansas River into North Little Rock, and meets I-40 at Exit 11 (I-40 Exit 159).
North of I-40, the leg to Jacksonville used to be signed as Highway 440. It became part of I-440 in November 2024 when I-57 was designated, and it now ends at I-57 Exit 6. For trucks moving between the port, the airport cargo area, and I-40 or I-57, I-440 is the direct route that avoids downtown.

Where trucks break down on I-440
- The floodplain bridges. The long elevated stretch near I-30 leaves little room to pull over. Keep rolling to the next exit if you safely can.
- Port and airport exits. Warehouse and distribution traffic means yard tractors, trailers, and trucks idling at docks for hours.
- The river bridge. Another stretch with limited shoulder space.
- Jacksonville leg. Faster, more open road where tire and cooling problems show up.
